Indexed fees (drift automatically)
These states don’t have a one-time change scheduled, but their fee is tied to inflation, a fuel-efficiency formula, vehicle MSRP, or the state gas tax — so the amount rises (or shifts) over time without new legislation. The figure on each state page is the current-year amount.

Is there a federal EV fee?
No. As of June 2026 there is no federal EV registration surcharge — all EV fees are levied at the state level. A $250-per-year federal EV fee was proposed in 2025 but was removed from the bill before it passed. A federal road-usage charge remains a live policy discussion; if it advances, we will note it here.
